Joined by the rhythm section: Phil Markowitz, piano; Paul Rostock, bass; Bill Goodwin, drums

The group recorded an album last year of the songs they will be performing entitled “Phil Woods Works for Saxophone,” these concerts will serve as the CD’s official release. The concert will include performances of “Three Improvisations for Sax Quartet” and a piece called “Deer Head Sketches” in which Woods outlines all the different rooms of the famous jazz club with musical movements.

Phil Woods was known for constantly revising his work. In addition to writing for jazz quartet, little big band and full big band, he also wrote more through composed, classical-type pieces. The recording combines all of those parameters into one by featuring the latest revisions of some of Phil’s well known sax quartet music.
